Find out more about why companies use tests
It is often said that people are hired for their formal qualifications but let go because of their personality. Psychological factors have a real impact on how people work, collaborate and develop within an organisation, yet they are often overlooked. Assessments help bring these factors into view and create awareness of your personal strengths and pitfalls. Ideally, this awareness benefits both you and the employer.
Well-constructed psychometrical tests provide objective information about a person or group in areas that are normally hard to measure. Tests are used for a range of occupational purposes, such as recruitment, personal development, group team work, leadership development, coaching, and so on.
Personality: Personality questionnaires highlight personal preferences on several factors. For example, how much someone focuses on details, or whether they prefer to work alone or with others. The results can be used for recruitment or for development.
Ability: These tests focus on a person's mental potential or the ability to reason logically and analytically. They show the level of complexity someone can handle in relation to the job, which matters for decision-making and for situations with many factors at play. The results are mainly relevant in recruitment.
Ability Tests
Ability tests measure how well you reason logically with complex information. Or in other words, how difficult a problem you can work through and still arrive at the right answer. This kind of reasoning matters in most jobs, because we use it every day to make decisions and handle tasks. Examples of ability tests are Master's ACE and CORE, which are both used in recruitment.
Personality Profiles
Personality profiles look at your individual preferences and how you typically behave in an occupational context. A preference is not the only way you can behave, but it describes the traits and behaviours that come most naturally to you when you are not deliberately trying to act differently. Examples of personality tests are Master's BRIGHT, MPA, EASI, and OPTO.
BRIGHT, MPA, and OPTO describe your preferences on detailed scales and are used for both recruitment and development. EASI is a typology profile that groups preferences into four basic personality types, and is used for personal development and to improve team dynamics.
