EASI: A typology for well-being and tender processes

MT Højgaard Denmark is one of the country’s leading companies within infrastructure, new construction, and renovation. Operating nationwide, they are experts in building bridges — and not only in the physical sense.

In any given project at MT Højgaard Denmark, a wide range of stakeholders are involved. Individuals with very different professional backgrounds and geographic locations: developers, architects, office staff, craftspeople, and engineers. It was precisely this cross-disciplinary collaboration that, a few years ago, required renewed focus.

There was no alternative but to step into their safety boots and address the challenge head-on. Fortunately, part of the solution turned out to be a tool they already had in their toolbox: EASI.

EASI: A Swiss army knife in the toolbox

At MT Højgaard Denmark, EASI has been used for many years. A few years ago, the decision was made to apply the typology more broadly across the organisation:

“There are many strong tools on the market. But the reason EASI stands out is that it is embedded in everyday practice. It has become a shared language within the organisation. With its simplicity, EASI sticks. Everyone can relate to it, while still allowing for nuance.”

Lise Svinth Jonassen, Head of HR Project Collaboration at MT Højgaard Denmark

Typologies and well-being assessments

At MT Højgaard Denmark, collaboration and well-being form the foundation of a strong organisation. This is why they take a proactive approach to well-being surveys, conducting two annually while also sending out additional surveys on an ongoing basis in connection with specific projects.

These regular measurements provide, among others, Lise Svinth, Head of HR Project Collaboration, with a clear overview of well-being and collaboration across the organisation and within individual projects. The results are impressive. In the 2025 well-being survey, the score for job satisfaction reached 8.3 out of 10.

Despite the overall high level of well-being, MT Højgaard Denmark has solutions ready when the pulse of a project needs to be maintained. One such initiative can be a collaboration workshop with EASI as the central focus.

Using EASI, both internal and external stakeholders become more aware of each other’s behaviours and ways of working, and gain a shared language that helps create direction, strengthen collaboration, and ultimately enhance well-being.

“We experience stronger collaboration when we have a tool like EASI to provide the language for what works — and what can be challenging — in collaboration. EASI ensures that we start from the same platform, from which we can align expectations and build effective collaboration and communication.”

From collaboration to Unique Selling Points

The typology has not only strengthened internal collaboration — it has also proven valuable in the tendering process. Here, team members included in a bid are typically presented with their name, job title, and a brief description of their EASI profile: what are their strengths, and what is it like to work with them? In this way, EASI makes it possible to use collaboration as a value proposition and build trust even before the contract is secured.

“Collaboration is the key to how we work — on construction sites, in the office, and across the entire organisation, both internally and externally. It is about cross-functional collaboration.”

EASI-profiles are displayed on Construction Sites across the country

To maintain a strong focus on effective collaboration, several project teams display an overview of their EASI profiles in their site offices. When the overview is physically visible, it serves as a constant reminder that everyone is different and contributes with their own strengths. This makes communication easier, as it reinforces the understanding that people have different behavioural patterns and preferences.

In this way, EASI becomes a tool that, on a daily basis, helps keep collaboration at MT Højgaard Denmark as solid as a load-bearing wall.
